Introduction
"When Unzumi and Rajua learn of the odd birth of Shahila -- Mviko and Latani's youngest cub, who was born three days after her siblings and is colored pure white -- they once again come to the Barbary King with more prophecies. But this time, they are specific." "They predict that the White Princess will ultimately bring about the early death of the Mbaamwezian King. But in order to prove that they are correct, that their words are not lies, they tell Mviko of three additional prophecies -- and these will guarantee that Shahila will be the Barbary King's downfall in the end." "First, they speak of a tornado. On Shahila's birthday, which is notably unique from her siblings' as she was born three days later than them, is known to be the first day of the rainy season. The two lionesses foretell of a storm -- a storm that will announce the beginning of the season, but will also bring about one of their prophecies. According to Unzumi and Rajua, the storm will be unusually fierce -- so much so that is spawns something beyond rare in Africa: a tornado. None of the pride will be killed or even injured. But the appearance of the tornado will be enough." "Next comes word of an occurrence on the day of Shahila's first hunt. When the young Princess successfully brings down her first kill, and after she summons the pride and alerts them of her victory, the leonines will surround the white lioness and offer their praises. But it is to be short-lived. In the midst of their celebration, a sudden cry of surprise will be heard from one of the lionesses. All eyes will immediately shoot skyward, where the sun is beginning to vanish: a solar eclipse, the second prophecy, the second sign." "The final prophecy will come at a time that is unknown -- at a time of false security, when the pride is lulled by security and confidence. When father and youngest daughter are out upon a patrol, a thing which both parties do on a regular basis, a sudden and completely random stroke of lightning will slash from the sky. From it, the sparks of a fire are born -- and the first brush fire to strike the Mbaamwezi will begin. With the dry vegetation of the desert, the fire almost instantaneously rises to an inferno. The two are separated, and Mviko quickly finds his way towards safety -- out into the true sands where the fire cannot catch. But Shahila is not so lucky. In her panic, she will dark into the thicker grasses, choking on the smoke and heat. Mviko, able to see his daughter's impending death, rushes without hesitation into the blaze. And, in doing so, Mviko sacrifices his own life. Using his massive frame as a shield, Mviko will see Shahila out of the fire -- but his survival is forfeit, the life scorched out of him." "And so, all is fulfilled: the Barbary King is dead, at the hands of his last-born daughter." This is what the prophecy consists of, whether it comes true or not it's a matter of time.
